The Ultimate Childhood Game and Experience

Pokemon. Boy do I have a history with Pokemon. These are not just "games" I play. These games have been with me ever since I figured out what video games were. Pokemon is quite an amazing franchise that I still play today. It had a huge impact on my childhood I will never forget my first experience with Pokemon. Let me take you on a flashback with this experience!!

The Game Boy. My first hand held system. Got it right after my big brother's birthday in 1998 when he got the new and improved Game Boy Color (Hand me down. Go figure right?). He also got Pokemon Blue for his new Game Boy. I remember him throwing me the Game Boy and saying "Here you can have this Game Boy and Pokemon Yellow version". I had watched my brother play Yellow from time to time.
I was not sure what Pokemon was at this point still (I was 5 years old after all). Was I in for a real treat here. I wake up one morning one day to find my brother sitting in a corner playing his game boy. He looks up at me quickly and says, "Get your Game Boy...NOW!!" so I run back to my room and quickly grab that big fat grey box and hurry back downstairs. Confused I ask him, "Now why did you want me to bring this down?" He pulls me down to sit and says "Just play, Pokemon." and he stopped talking to me as he continued to play Blue Version. So obviously listening to my big brother I press power and watch the Nintendo logo fall from the screen and let the game load.
"Pikaaaaa"
That's right Eevee, keep using tail whip...
My childhood takes a wild turn for the best after this menu screen. The rest explains itself. I get to Pallet town with its theme song ringing from my Game Boy. I finally figure out I have to run up to the grass to get Prof. Oak to come stop me to actually finally start my Pokemon Journey. Oak finally gives me Pikachu and I for the first time fight Gary (that gay bastard) and thus my first battle began. After this battle my 5 year old self knew, this game was something special. And turns out it was. I sat there after that sitting in the corner playing for the next 5 hours straight until my mom forced me to go outside.
Pokemon. The greatest thing to happen in my childhood with video games at least. I played a lot until I hit Brock the first gym leader could not beat him. Until after hours more playing I figured out I need Mankey the fighting Pokemon that was located on route 22.
My Savior

That is the story of my first encounter with Pokemon. I will always treasure that memory. I ended up beating Yellow many times and then finally upgrading to a Game Boy color and buying Pokemon red version. From then on out I bought at least one Pokemon game from each generation(I got Gold, Crystal, Ruby, Emerald, Pearl, and White. I will be getting Y in October this year ^.^)
I am 19 years old now and I can still play the crap out of these games. They hold a special place in my heart and I can always play them! I was very lucky to be able to start with the original generation. I have watched the series grow and grow with more and more Pokemon to catch and I am always happy to get a new Pokemon game. I am not a generation 1 whore who only likes that generation I actually like all of the generations. (Pearl's generation probably was the worst if I had to chose while Gold and Silver had my personal Favorite). These games just mean a lot to me! These games also played a huge role into me being interested in video games in general (super Mario world helped too !). This is just my shout out to Pokemon and the memories I have with the games!
